LiAnn Butterfield ’16

My name is LiAnn!  I am a freshmen at Holy Cross, and I can’t wait to share what it’s like with you over the course of the next year.  Right now, we are on Fall Break (lucky us!), but honestly, I can’t wait to get back to the Hill.  It easily became a home away from home, incredibly quickly, and I miss all the great friends I’ve made.  Of course the break is nice too.  It gives us students time to update our families on how thrilling our experiences have been so far, and of course some time to catch up on sleep.  Or maybe that’s just me.  With all the friends I’ve made, we spend much more time hanging out and figuring out campus at 1:00am than we do sleeping.  On the other hand, my roommate goes to bed at 10:30pm every night.  College really is all up to you, your counselors and teachers in High School didn’t lie.

I’m part of a few organizations that keep me busy and active on campus.  For one, I signed up for the newspaper club, since I love to write (NaNoWriMo* anyone?).  Newspaper club is easy to be a part of because you have room to submit almost anything you think might be interesting, and you can do it when you have the time.  I’m also a member of the Equestrian Club and Team, as I’ve been riding horses since I was about seven years old, and owned my own horse for four years.  Not nearly enough people know that Holy Cross has an Equestrian Club.  I didn’t find out until the summer before coming to school, and I was beyond thrilled.  But more about that in a later post.  I also tried out for Cheerleading this year, and despite having no history or experience in cheering, I made the team!  We practice about three times a week, and have “lift” (exercises for strength and conditioning in the varsity weight room with a professional trainer) twice a week.  It’s keeping me pretty physically fit, which makes up for my love of the soft-serve ice cream machines in Kimball.

On top of all that, obviously, I’m a student blogger.  I’m looking forward to the next four years, and this year with all of you!  Thanks for reading!

Always,

L

*NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month.  It is an organization that encourages aspiring authors to write a 50,000+ word novel in one month’s time (November).  Should you complete the 50,000 words and submit your word count, you then get a discount code to receive  a free hard copy of your novel, printed by CreateSpace.  I’m proud to say I’ve now completed NaNoWriMo two years in a row! (2010, 2011)
